*Diary form post

Just finished my current semester in engineering, currently on study leave but you can call that a holiday. So far so good, Ive got the feeling that i had made the right decision choosing Engineering. Lots of stuff learned but its just that I feel that I haven’t get to know anyone new at all recently. Somehow I always end up with the same group of friends, and they’re mostly guys. Maybe I was always like that and only since leaving secondary school did I got to realize that school was the best place to make friendships. I mean your forced to sit next to someone and it seems that studies got most of my attention in university, maybe I’m just addicted to engineering.

A funny thing was that I remembered the teacher started mixing boys and girls to sit next to each other during my primary school, somehow we hated it that time. However, In secondary school it was the other way round boys and girls were separated and we hated that too. Hey, why am I thinking bout all this I don’t even have anyone to miss.

The journey

April 28th, 2009 · No Comments

This happened quite some time ago.

traffic at a standstill before the tunnel

Picture taken at SS19, Persiaran Tujuan, Subang Jaya on the 3rd of April. The cause of the jam still remains a mystery to me.

You know your screwed when you see this. It took me an hour to reach Monash instead of the usual 15 minutes.

So far I have been late twice, one was because I took 30 minutes to find a parking spot and one more because of this traffic jam.

Days like this makes me wanna get the Suzuki Hayabusa.

Recent Happenings

MY mid semester test just ended and you also know you’re screwed when you can’t answer any of the only 3 questions in your Dynamics paper

This is not a drill

April 15th, 2009 · 3 Comments

I have a one week holiday but Ive got tests next week and I’m using this holiday to catch up.

Last Friday during my Dynamics lecture the PA system went:

“Attention, this is an emergency please evacuate immediately. This is not a drill”

Since none of us feels that there was an urgent need to evacuate most of us took our own sweet time to get out. My lecturer even said: Hey, pass me the attendance sheet before leaving.

After evacuating to the field I finally figured out why Monash’s gigantic parking lot gets full sometimes. If you’ve even been to Giant USJ 1 old parking lot, Monash parking lot is bigger than that.

A lot of people

I cant potray the amount of people from the place that I was standing, this is only a quarter and many of my friends studying business in Monash are off on Fridays.

During normal days it seems that Monash does not have many students at all, maybe Monash is just big.

And yes, this was just a drill or else I might have an extra long holiday and maybe transfer all my classes to Australia.

Ancora Imparo

March 24th, 2009 · 2 Comments

Ancora Imparo means I am still learning and its the motto of Monash University.

I have been enrolled in the school of engineering in Monash University for a few weeks. So far I am still alive although Im not feeling that well this week, Im having a terrible sore throat. I Slept through a few classes and missed a few already =(

Anyway, the Monash University Student Association(MUSA) are pretty cool(and hot), they organized an orientation bash at Port Dickson for 150 students for free. I though I was gonna have a blast getting bashed up, or raped or whatever but I ended up spending a whole day competition in crappy telematches like who can create the best flag, transferring water using a sponge(this took us forever), transferring ping pong balls from a bucket of flour to somewhere else, half-blinded cartwheel race, burying competition. The only fun group activity that they organized was the tug of war, unfortunately I am not big and strong enough for that and so were most members of my group.

The activities were boring, but at least I made some new friends thanks to being in a group. While the organizers were busy counting the scores of groups for the boring activities, me and my friends went on a banana boat ride

Somehow, I got sand, flour, ping pong balls, soap and loads of salt water that day in my mouth that day.

This first few weeks werent as hard as expected physics and engineering dynamics are very repetitive. Ive learnt newtons 2nd law many times, in secondary school, MUFY, and im being thaught the same thing in engineering physics and dynamics.

Anyway, physics labarotory projects are all about eggs. My first project was to construct a vehicle powered by a standard rubber band to transport an egg to the furthest displacement. There were a few rules that made getting a large displacement hard such as no rotation objects and lubricant were allowed.

Anyway, my vehicle traveled 6.8m during the measuring session. Actually it had the potential to get to at least 8m but my whole group was traumatized by the disaster of the first run. On the first run, our vehicle went about 15 meters but without an egg, the egg flew off and cracked. =(

Sorry for the lack of pictures, not only am I lacking any interesting pictures Im having trouble uploading them

Monash Week 0

March 1st, 2009 · No Comments

Monash orientations are over and Its what I expected, nothing much except hearing speeches, making friends and getting a campus introduction but there is a sports day at the end of it called Molympics.

I participated and I was put into team yellow, engineering Alpha(some schools were split into 2 as there were too many students) and we had a mascot who lived in a pineapple under the sea, Spongebob. All the games werent thoose athletic kind. There was no 100 meters sprinting or high jumping but there were dodgeball, frisbee, spongerace, blind football, marble searching, tug of war, water balloons instead.

Spongebob getting shot.

I was supposed to join frisbee and dodgeball but somehow frisbee was full. The dodgeball game was sad, my team lost after less than 1 minute. I tried to jump over a ball thrown at me but the ball bounced on the floor and touched me and I was out, how unfair.

Qouted from http://www.dodgeballusa.com/rules.html

THE GAME

The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them “OUT”. This may be done by:

1. Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders.

2. Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground.

Definition: LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything, including the floor/ground, another ball, another player, official or other item outside of the playing field (wall, ceiling, etc)

Anyway, my team didn’t win but at least we won the best mascot.

Suprisingly I got sunburned when I got home and looked like a tomato. The weather diddn’t felt that hot during the games as it was pretty cloudy or maybe I diddn’t feel the heat and was just distracted by hotness from other sources.

Monash classes starts on tomorrow, Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
